Upcoming free agent Sean Smith and the Miami Dolphins are not ‘eye to eye’ in contract talks. There has been word that Smith could receive the franchise tag. According to a team source that spoke with the Miami Herald’s Armando Salguero, Smith will not be franchised this month.
Smith and his camp believe that the market for a cornerback is $8-$10 million per year. That price is a bit overboard for Smith, who struggled at times throughout the season against smaller, quicker receivers. He also allowed more combined first downs and touchdowns than any cornerback in the NFL last season.
The Dolphins have five of the first 82 picks in the NFL draft. The organization would be better off addressing the position in the first two rounds of the draft.
